Why do we call it Tessie's Market? Who is Tessie anyways?

Did you know that the Boston Redsox used to play right down the road at the Huntington Avenue American League Baseball Grounds? This is where they won their first World Series in 1903. When the Red Sox moved to Fenway Park in 1912, their old tadium was demolished but their spirit lives here in Fenway. Tessie's Market is a homage to the classic Red Sox traditions. Many people know of Wally the Green Monster, the Red Sox mascot, but a lesser known baseball icon is his sister, Tessie.

Alongside Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline", you'll be sure to hear "Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphys when the Sox play today. This updated version of "Tessie" is a nod to how the singing of the original "Tessie" by the Royal Rooters fan club helped the Boston Americans win the first World Series in 1903.

Tessie's Market stands tall and proud between the Wentworth, MassArt, and MCPHS campuses to continue to celebrate the lovable, cute, and spirited green monster, Tessie.
